Working Together

We Work Closely With Our Parents

Starting nursery is a very exciting time. We aim to ensure your child's introduction to our setting is as stress free as possible. When your child is due to start we will encourage them to come for short visits, this helps to familiarise your child with the nursery, the nursery staff and the other children.

What to Bring

Please ensure your child has the following named items at nursery:
  • Wellington Boots/Raincoat (your child MUST have suitable clothing for wet weather)
  • Sun Hat/Sun Cream
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions
  • Appropriate clothing for your child to manage themselves
  • Nappy changing items (if needed) this includes nappies, wipes and nappy sacks
  • Baby formula milk; specialised milks/foods (we always keeps a small amount of SMA formula milk cartons in stock for emergencies)
  • All items such as all toys from home, comforters, etc should be clearly labelled.
  • Please do not send your child wearing precious items such as jewellery (including ‘amber teething beads’) as the business will not be liable for the loss or damage of such items.

Clothing

The nursery requests that each child is provided with at least one complete changes of clothes (clearly labelled with your child’s name). It is an essential component of educative play that your child is able to enjoy art and craft activities with; glue, paste, paint, sand, water, etc. Inevitably your child may transfer some of these materials onto themselves and their clothing. We attempt as far as possible to purchase glue, paste and paint that is ‘washable’, but in practice not everything is washable off all clothing materials. You should therefore dress your child with this in mind. We strongly advise you to dress your child in practical clothing rather than precious and treasured clothing. Children who have had the opportunity to get ‘messy’ including wet, have had a busy day full of adventures, experiments and new experiences. Please do not be offended or cross if this happens, this is something to be pleased about as your child has had fun. The nursery will accept no liability for clothing damaged while your child is at the nursery.

All clothing (even bibs) should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Sometimes we will wash items if we are able to, especially if we feel that by not washing them promptly it will cause them to stain. We send washing to be done at the end of each day, amongst this washing is a high quantity of bibs, which may or may not contain customer bibs also. Therefore, it is important to label belongings, to ensure that they don’t get lost in the abyss of Brook Cottage bibs!

"Brook Cottage is a very special place. When I was looking for a Nursery for my girls I wanted somewhere they would be safe and happy but I also wanted somewhere they would learn, progress and grow. Brook cottage was exactly that. It's a home away from home, a small setting that provides high quality provision. All the staff are warm, welcoming and treat the children as their own. My girls wake up excited to go everyday and walk in smiling. I will be sad and so will they when it's time for them to move on. Thank you for everything you do."
